Northern Region

The northern region of Thailand is well-known for its distinct culture especially of the one independent Lanna region and its gentle people and beautiful women. Only an hour by plane from Bangkok, this region lands itself to a weekend golf outing. Its culture, fresh weather in the winter and its trekking attractions makes this region one of the most frequented by foreign visitors.

Description & Signature hole: The signature hole with
an island green is number 15, a short 169 yard Par 3,
which is the most intimidating looking hole on the course.
The island looks very small, but it is nearly 50 yards wide
which is a large target for a shot of this length.

Tel: +66 (0) 5326 1354-9 GPS: 18.804555, 99.257779

Description & Signature hole: The 13th 384 yards Par 4
is relatively straightforward if you hit the right shots.
A good drive from an elevated tee out on the perimeter
of the course to a generous fairway will seem to fly forever,
leaving a short or mid iron for the approach shot.

The green is protected by bunkers and a large lake running
down most of the left side and round the back of the
putting surface, so err on the short side if at all. Realistically,
the lake is not in play from the tee, but it does prey on
the mind for the second shot, particularly those fighting a serial hook.
Chiang Mai Inthanon Golf & Natural Resort

Tel: +66 (0) 5326 7115-6 GPS: 18.465029, 98.744838

Description & Signature hole: The 13th 368 yards Par
4 will test the aqua phobic golfer’s ability to focus on
a couple of clean strikes to get on in fairway. A right to left
dogleg with water along the right side would tend to force
the player to steer left but a bunker guards this option,
so a brave straight drive is what the course designer is
asking for.

Negotiate that part and you are faced with something like
a 6 or 7 iron to an island green, the right side of which is
shielded by bunkers. There is no bail out here so a committ-
ed shot to the middle of the green will get you past one
of the more challenging holes on the course.

The 17th, 370 yards, Par 4 can be one of those deceptively
easy holes towards the end of a round that might be costly
if not treated with respect. It is a right dogleg with an out
of bounds line down the left, a lake in front of the tee,
and sand guarding the corner as the hole turns right.
Getting the drive right is key to setting up an amenable
approach to a raised green, but bunkers await either side
with no easy view of the bottom of the flagstick. Belief
in the yardage and precision is needed to score well.
A pleasant view over the jungle towards Doi Inthanon
awaits at the top of the rise.
Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort

Description & Signature hole: Narrow fairways with
Zoysia grass areperfect for low handicap players. Several
water hazards and doglegs as well aslong par 5’s make

Description & Signature hole:
Hole 6, Par 3, 164 yards
Hole 7, Par 4, 423 yards
Summit Green Valley Chiang Mai Country Club
(18 Holes Par 72, 7,202 yards)
This course is very difficult to par, especially the back nine.
The fairways, lined with palm trees, seem wide, but golfers
must be careful of the water hazards and bunkers which
are plentiful at the landing areas, thus making the fairways
narrow and leaving no room for wayward shots. Situated in
the lowlands and only 20 minutes drive from the center of
Chiang Mai, Summit Green Valley manages to offer beautiful
surroundings, fresh air, and various native landscaping
unique to Northern Thailand.

Designer: Denis Griffiths

Facilities: The clubhouse provides full features and services
including a polite & professional staff, well-stocked pro shop,
dining & refreshment areas, locker room facilities and
luxurious health spa services.

Chiang Mai 50180
Tel: +66 (0) 5329 8220-3 GPS: 18.917979, 98.96347

Description & Signature hole:Hole 16, with a Par 3.
The straight-line tee shot carries several traps, a thick
rough depression, and a steep up-slope. Anything short
or left will make it very difficult to save par. The short
fairway 7 approach curves in from the right and a good
draw with a long iron or fairway wood will make the green
or leave an easy uphill chip to save your par. The right
side has high rough, numerous trees, and a greenside
bunker. Par is an excellent score here.

Description & Signature hole: Hole 4 438 yards – Par 4
This is the first of a series of difficult holes. A long Par 4
uphill all the way to a green at the top of the valley
guarded at the front by a pair of deep pot bunkers. A very
difficult par and almost impossible birdie hole.

Hole 5 563 yards – Par 5
A long downhill three shot which will tempt the long hitters
to make a birdie 4. There are however, hazards at the tee
shot and second shot landing area, which will test
the longer hitters. This pleasant hole is bordered the entire
length by a small stream which flows into a splendid lake.
