Phuket has many restaurants slightly off the beaten track and more or less unknown to tourists. Floating Restaurants at Laem Hin Pier are one of these. There are some restaurants built over the water between the pier and Koh Maprao (Coconut Island), paradise for seafood lovers with significant ocean views. Among them, Bang Mud Seafood (also called Charoen Seafood) is the best. The kitchen offers several seafood dishes cooked in Thai style which are very fresh since the restaurant has holding nets dropped into the water where live fish, prawns, crabs and shellfish are stored. However, the restaurant’s owner is Muslim, so they do not serve alcoholic beverages of any kind.

To get there drive south along Thepkrasattri Road from the traffic lights at the junction with Bypass Road. About two kilometers from the traffic lights the road does an ‘S’ bend up a hill. At the top of the hill take the left hand turn down a lane and follow it to the end where there is a car park and Laem Hin Pier. There will be several long-tail boats waiting to take passenger to Coconut Island at the end of the pier. Tell them to take you to Bang Mud Restaurant -- no need to pay for the fee as it is a complimentary service from the restaurant.
